Eco friendly alternative to bottled water
February 22nd, 2009 by jc2hughesBottled water has become a fact of life, but the evironmental cost is high. From the materials used to manufacture the bottles to the consumption of gas in the trucks used to ship it to stores, bottled water is an environmental disaster.
But there is a simple solution. Instead of selling bottled water, stores and restaurants could set up dispensers to serve chilled, filtered tap water. Users could provide their own container or purchase either a single use (waxed, recycled paper) or multi-use (glass/plastic). Outlets could also collect used containers for cleaning, re-use and re-issue for those who choose not to hang on to their container.
The price of water would be considerably less than the bottled water (even less if the user provides their own container). All shops and restaurants are already connected to the water supply, so set up and installation would be at a minimum.
And the environment impact of drinking “bottled” water would be virtually eliminated.

Unfortunately, you can’t just ban bottled water at the federal, state or municipal levels. Sheeple have a strong tendency to think bottled water is somehow safer or more natural than filtered tap water, regardless of crazy things like facts.

All “Convenience-Sized Bottled Water” should be either banned, or taxed to oblivion except in the case of Gallon, or Larger containers.
I understand the need for a few gallon jugs of water in the house when there is a problem with the local municipalities filtered water, or in preparing for a storm which will knock out such services (Hurricanes).
Otherwise shipping water hundreds, even thousands of miles in tiny plastic bottles is just insulting to everyone with a modicum of intelligence.
I have even heard of bottled water marketed for pampered pets, when will the madness end?
IF I drank water, which I rarely do, it is (and has been) a choice at many convenience stores at their fountain drink counter, most have a small “Water” button alongside one of the many soda choices.
